My biggest question regarding the reception is about food. We do not want to have a sit down meal, but some type of finger food or appetizers to tide us over would be nice. What did you do at your reception, how well do you feel it worked & would you do it again? Are there anything you would avoid? Please include if you had it catered or if friends or family put it together for you.
Any other reception advice is accepted too. How long was your reception?
[That's all my questions on that for now.]
I've had a zillion friends get married - some with simple ceremonies and some with the HUGE 500+ sit-down-dinner-and-dancing-affairs.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing that all have mentioned years after their wedding was about finances ... keeping the wedding beautiful but within a reasonable budget. Stress over money was their biggest regret - it caused lots of undue anxiety and arguing with the couple and also all the parents. And a few started their newly married life off in serious dept from the wedding. Anytime wedding discussion has popped up over the years they have mentioned time and again how much they regretted not simplifying - or forking out tons of cash that could have been used towards buying a house.
All that to say - figure out what kind of budget you've got to work with, and then go from there. One of my all-time favorite and beautiful weddings & receptions was this past summer. It was super simple yet so meaningful. It wasn't huge, was out on a lawn overlooking the ocean, a classic guitarist playing throughout and at the reception they served Julian pie, and had tables with fruits, cheese and crackers. Later they took their family and wedding party out to a more intimate dinner. (The couple and their reception planner all work on campus ... Danielle Brown Friberg is RD at Nease and Chavonne Karahadian was the reception planner).
Not sure if this helps - but this has seriously been the main topic whenever weddings have been discussed with friends over the last 20 years! Finances and god-aweful bridesmaids dresses! :)
